It should be Bumrah, he showed his interest in being captain and also did exceptionally well when he got the chance so in my opinion definitely it should be him and it's been a while India team had pacer as captain.
Gill had a dream debut in Australia (2021) but for some reason, he became mid tier player. He's still scoring enough runs in India tho but his numbers are not improving in SENA which is a bit of a worry but he's young and BCCI has invested in him heavily and hopes he delivers in the next 2-3 year cycle. If not, then he will become the next KL Rahul, a generational talent with a mediocre test career, it would be sad tbh because he is indeed a talented guy.
There's an interesting stat, the average of Gill is same as Bhuvi's avg in SENA test matches.
If it's not Gill the player would be dropped forever but he managed to hang on due to internal politics. I am not saying he is bad but he failed to perform in the given chances but still he rides while the deserving youngsters remain uncapped.
KL is our best player in SENA conditions so he still got his time in test format and in my opinion he would be the ideal opener along with Jaiswal to bring the left-right and class with agressive batting combination that we have't seen for the past couple of years.
