4) Is my device safe or not?  I need to know whether to dump my crypto somewhere else and find a new device.

My personal opinion is that anyone who still keeps their coins on Ledger HW should seriously consider buying new HW. The way this company handled its customers' data is more than enough proof that they don't take their job seriously - because if a few hundred thousand personal names with their addresses are leaked, and their CEO treats it as something completely unimportant, then the conclusion is that they simply don't care.

Instead of trying to save their reputation, they "invent" an option that shares the seed of their users with third parties and charge each user who chooses this about $120 per year. I wouldn't even call their devices hardware wallets anymore, because considering all the options they have, they seem more like some kind of centralized service full of risks.

I won't advise anyone on which hardware wallet to buy - but if it's not open source and airgapped, I would personally skip it.
