$24M or bigger or smaller amount of money, it's the same reason for people who are victims of scammers. They are too greedy and want to "get rich super quick".

Scam offers like "Send me 1 ETH, I send you back 1.5 ETH or 2 ETH". If people are not too greed and if their mind is not blind, they would have never accepted those scam offers. Because Bitcoin, ETH, money are not from thin air especiallly if you are not governments and central banks that can print massive fiat currencies if they want. People who give you such scam offers can not have Bitcoin, ETH and fiat curreny from thin air, so if they actually do what they promise, they will be bankrupted. Thinking about scam offers this way, you will see they are scammers and you won't be scammed.
