First step I would recommend is seeking help. More times than not, it is difficult to overcome a true addiction on your own. Recognizing the situation and seeking help is a strong step in beating it.

For sure - first step is help but the person in too deep has to realise that and has
to make the move themselves.
While the steps in the OP are actually good advice but I would guess for someone
with gambling issues they are not in a position to take them. They are thinking
differently, if they could easily switch to those steps its likely they would have
done so sooner and wouldnt have issues IMO.
