Alonso performance with Leverkusen has been a masterpiece all this while since last season but after their defeat yesterday by Bayern Munich who's their strong opponent in their domestic league, it looks like it's already game over for the champions league dream and making it even more questionable on their local title race. Football is sometimes crazy but for Leverkusen to overcome 3 whole goals margin against Bayern Munich is like trying to climb a big mountain which would be definitely hard to achieve.

What I still don't understand up to now is why Xabi Alonso benched his best strikers Boniface and Schick in a match against strong opponent like Bayern. Was that a tactics or just too much of confidence or he underrate Bayern? I would say the chance to turn things around in the second leg is just 5% having conceded too many goals yesterday. The performance this season have not been quite impressive thou.
Xabi Alonso decision to bench Patrik Schick and Boniface clearly raises big questions, but it wasn't the only mistake that led to Leverkusen crushing defeat at the Allianz Arena. Conceding an early goal, Matej Kovar fatal error, Nordi Mukiele dismissal for two yellow cards, are some of the points that I think contributed to Leverkusen being thrashed 3-0 by Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen clearly needs a miracle to turn things around in the second leg, and of course it's difficult to chase a 3-goal margin, even though they will be playing at home. Simply put, Bayern Munich has put one foot in the quarter-finals, they only need to draw in the second leg. Although Xabi Alonso still looks optimistic, the fact is that Leverkusen chances are very low.
