A decade old drought ended with the T-20 WC trophy, so I can understand the overblown celebrations. The recent CT triumph was the cherry on top. ODI WC hits different chords because it comes every 4 years, hence the novelty and prestigious event.
IMO, When people talk about scrapping off the ODI format, they mean dead rubber bilateral series. I am also not a fan of the braindead bilateral series (T-20/ODI). It makes sense when the ICC tourney is around as it provides some context or its tri-series.
Replacing braindead ODI bilaterals with T20I bilaterals doesn't make any sense. What we need is more triangular and quadrangular series. Two decades back, there used to be a lot of them, including the Sharjah Cup and Sahara Cup. But after the match fixing scandal, most of them were scrapped. And for the BCCI also it makes sense to conduct bilaterals. This means sharing the revenue between just two teams instead of three or four. But in the long run, it makes the sport of cricket boring to watch.
