The first rule of investing is this;

- Do not invest in what you don't know.

And that's why everything we invest in that we don't know leads to actual losses from just being potential losses. Those who have seen how Bitcoin works and understand it the way it is are the ones who decided to hold it for the long term. But it doesn't mean that the short-term folks don't understand it, they just chose the shorter path and they might be back for long-term holding too once they have profited from it. So, going back to the first rule, an ignorant investor is bound to losses.
Yes, it is a winning strategy but if we look at it now there is a change in the cycle, they will temporarily move to coins other than BTC, perhaps with that temporary choice will be faster than compared to other asset classes.
Bitcoin isn't just a temporary choice. Whether there is a motion from BTC to the other cryptos and vice versa, it's always been the best choice. But this isn't only about that but being able to choose what's the best investment for ourselves and knowing how it goes. Without understanding it, you're like throwing a lot of money to the market and letting other people win over that. As for the change in the cycle, that's visible but it is still making Bitcoin as the top choice and as we speak now, the price moved quite a bit as per FOMC.
