Friday, Saturday and now Sunday I have done three sets of twenty pushups per day (180)

Push on!

Are you feeling good about your progress?  It seems that in the very beginning, you were challenged in some of your own thinking about whether you could even do pushups on a regular basis..  .. and so little by little you have been including this in your daily activities.  Are you feeling more powerful (physically and perhaps psychologically about this new activity)?

Good question - I'm just pausing to think about it.

Yes, I'm pleased with my progress - I don't have a goal to be doing a hundred pushups by June or anything like that, but after a while I've found that a dozen became easier, then fifteen became easier, so now I have upped the number to twenty in one set and am back to feeling like I am challenging myself.

I had started doing pushups before I was hospitalised nine months ago and while lieing in bed, my arms and shoulders were really aching to the point trying to turn over in bed (especially during the second hospitaisation) was near impossible.  So when I get out of hospital I found myself back to square zero and having to build my strength again.

Physically, I'm pleased that I can do something regularly.  Psycologically, some-days requires a little bit of pre-planning to work out when in the day the second and third sets are done (almost always the first set are done after waking up as a part of my get ready coffee and vitamins / toast before venturing out for the day).

about once per week I've surprised myself by doing a second set shortly after the first set - which sets me up for doing double sets three times per day.

Quote
I continue to feel it is a challenge to do pushup sets and to carve out time to do my pushup sets, and frequently I like to do pushups prior to eating anything, even though I can do them at other times, I just tend to feel better to exert myself on an empty stomach.  So sometimes if I have some social activities that involve eating in the morning, then that morning eating might screw up my routine and my ambitions to do pushups.

Yeh, as I alluded to just above, getting up, getting ready and going out for the day includes the first set.  After arriving back home is usually when the second set is done, then near bed time is usually when the third set are done.  Missing the second set after getting home means the second and third set are done close together before bed.

I finally think I rested my foot long enough to get back in on these and my steps.

Welcome back, Philip.
