There is what we call self-conviction. There is no amount of suggestions/advice you will give to an addicted gambler for him to quit gambling that will make him quit unless he has self-conviction or should I say self-realization. Addictions is something that is hard to deal with. Most people go to rehab and after some time, go back to do the same thing they were admitted for addiction.

This is why therapy seems like a waste of time, no matter the help you get from others if you don't put in conscious effort to make a change it's not going to do anything.. although speaking up can be a way to tackle it but you must also learn to discipline yourself as well...rehab isn't the solution to the problem, gambling addiction is a psychological issue but it doesn't mean addicts are psychopaths, most of them are affected by their greed and other things that triggers the urge to gamble. Conscious effort is what it takes to get rid of it

Therapy works for some individuals, and it is exactly why more therapists are making wave in the industry. Although i can say not more than 30% of Indvidual's who have visited a therapists found a solution to their problem.

I have heard stories of people going to rehab and back. After a year or two they go back to being addicted to the same thing, at times they get more worse than how they used to be. If we go a long way personally, we will help ourselves from addiction than how anyone can help us.
