What can we do to increase security and prevent Bitcointalk suffering something similar in future?
Why asking this question when Bitcointalk has been able to remain operational since over 15 years ago? Did you think there were no hackers that tried to take over this forum? You are an old member, you know this.
Theymos really tried letting this forum be where it is today.
The forum being old doesn't make it unhackable, and everyone who is furious can ask the same question for the sake of privacy and other data protection and the love of the forum.
The forum have been attacked three times.
Attack 1 Attack 2 Attack 3 Since then till now, I have not read anything about the forum being hacked again, aside from the DDoS attack it also experienced some time ago. The admin might have taken all preventive measures to block and fix any vulnerabilities that any hacker could have used to hack the forum, but still I don't consider the question irrelevant or something an old member should not have asked.
Everything online is hackable; that's why security is taken very seriously to prevent such things from happening. Hackers are updating their tools, so are forum/service owners, but nothing is 100% secure and unhackable, especially when you become a target of hackers.
