I dont think we should a term like "near-miss" in gambling because it is a loss in simple terms. You dont get a consolation prize for having "nearly missed" you have lost your wager.
Well on the contrary, there's this betting platform(Naira bet) in my country that offered a mild return for one ticket cutting your betslip(I don't know if they still do it now). When one game cuts your slip, they minus the odds of the game from the multiplier and give you 10% of the remaining money. I think it was used for marketing those days, but they really made near misses less painful for the gambler.
- How do you deal with near misses?
.....
I consider this a near miss due to ignorance. I didn't want to start a new topic on near misses caused as a result of ignorance, so I felt like sharing it here, maybe with your suggestions, I can update OP so that we have a new case study to discuss.
No need to edit your post on the op to expand your topic, it's already understood by many to clearly explain how near misses happen to them in many ways and scenerio just like you did as a form of ignorance and so many ways too to others. Near misses by ignorance is another crucial thing that would break than your life especially if the winning amount is huge like yours, I just imagine the kind of luxurious lifestyle you should've lived, it would've been huge

It was really painful and my loss was huge. Funny enough, that opportunity came but once and the guy's next game never came through and it doubled the pain. I also think it's more painful from ignorance than losing your game.
