I was supposed to create a separate thread about this, but due to my busy schedule, I thought it would be best by just sharing it on this thread only. Now, the idea of whether of someone investing in Bitcoin or cryptocurrency wasn't actually something to be bothered about until I saw a reason to be bothered about it.

Few weeks back, while watching a new episode of a financial related show on YouTube, the word "Cryptocurrency" was used in describing every digital currency that exist including Bitcoin. I didn't have any issue with that, until the show host described cryptocurrency with few statements like:
1. It's basically a form of gambling
2. It's not an investment, it's a speculation
3. A possible projected amount is zero, etc.
From the points made, you already see the problem on ground.
Using cryptocurrency to generalized altcoin and Bitcoin is already creating some misleading ideology towards Bitcoin. I agree to the fact that shitcoins fulfills some of those criteria/points made, but Bitcoin literally has nothing to do with it. The interesting part of it is that some users in the comment section didn't agree to what was said, which still proves that few people understands this thing.
So, you are definitely right by saying that cryptocurrency is a general term(which it is), but the truth is, that term has been used to generalized everything both in a positive and negative way.

I didn't include a link to the video, so newbies won't get totally confused while watching it. But if requested, I might.

Sometimes it is difficult to determine if hosts of those kinds of shows are convoluting terms and misleading people on purpose or if they really are that uneducated on the topic, even while they are acting as if they are knowledgable on the topic. I have heard some pretty smart people unable to distinguish between bitcoin and crypto, and even though they are smart they are also in a kind of stubborn zone to be purposefully choosing to just lump them all together as if they were the same thing.... They may even proclaim that bitcoin is a kind of leader to all of the rest, which is not completely wrong, even though it is also misleading in its context and sentiment.. which is also linked to not really understanding what bitcoin is to the extent that their ignorance might be accidental rather than on purpose or malicious.

Well I’m not going to say that what he said was misleading but I think is just choice of words, that is why it is necessary to always address Bitcoin when trying to mention cryptocurrencies, We all know that Bitcoin is a Cryptocurrency but he has to be specific in his statement, if he is referring to altcoins he should address it as an altcoin, and he should also refers Bitcoin specifically. If a person might be trying to be genuine in regards to some kinds of criticisms that they might have against bitcoin and/or crypto, then they likely need to figure out how to present their criticisms in a way that is clear what they are talking about.. if they are proclaiming that they are all scams, or implying some kind of a pyramid/ponzi scheme or even suggesting various central players manipulating the money, then ultimately they are showing their dumbness to the extent that they are talking on a topic without knowledge, that is if they are not purposefully doing it, and sometimes we need to be skeptical about whether they are acting in good faith.

There surely could be some valid criticisms that people are able to direct towards bitcoin, yet many times, they are lumped up in criticisms of shitcoins, so that they are undermining any possible valid criticisms that they might have against bitcoin, so yeah there are a lot of people around the world who either think they know about bitcoin because they heard the word, or they are relying on people who are uninformed to learn about bitcoin, and frequently it can take some time to learn that our information sources are wrong about a topic (which tends to be the case with a lot of mainstream sources who are talking about bitcoin).

This is why being in this forum is a privilege. Most times when I'm in the midst of friends who are not here in this forum, I get to understand the level of wrong information they are carrying about bitcoin. I used to get upset about it earlier but that's not really right because we only tend to know what we can know.

Most people believe that bitcoin is just one of the regular shitcoins and sometimes they don't tend to give room to learn something new about bitcoin. I was in a crypto gist with a friend a day before, when he started bragging about how a particular altcoin would put perform bitcoin before the end of the year. During the process, I asked him why he thinks so, just for me to realise he doesn't have any reason for saying that. He only believed so because of the hype he got among his ignorant fellows who also didn't have any base for their argument.

Bitcoin is a type of crypto, better than any other possible shitcoins due to most of its features which may rarely be found among any other altcoins. What matters is how good you are when it comes to sieving the information you have, picking out the right ones and discarding what ever makes you doubt the genuity of bitcoin. Be sure not to force your opinion on anyone, make your point and withdraw, forcing your opinion on them creates more doubt in their minds.
