It was proposed for new testnets to make it like that. And I agree with Garlo Nicon, that it is better to not touch the limit, but change the proportions instead, by mining enough coins for developers, before releasing new client for new testnet.

Also, when it comes to OP_RETURN, then there are other limits, which will still make things stable. There is a Script size limit, a transaction size limit, a block size limit, a transaction fee limit, and so on. And when OP_RETURN limit can be trivially bypassed, then it can be lifted, because it does more harm than good.

Could the removal of OP_RETURN be applied to Testnet first and then see how "bad" people can fuck it up there first?

This feels like potentially a middle ground and a good use of Testnet.

This way, the OP_Return removal will have had a chance to be tested in a small but violent public network. It lets people on both sides of the debate try it out IRL. If someone can prove a point in Testnet, then it should be reconsidered... if all is fine, then merge that bad boy worry-free. Fuck em.

Fork v4 into V5, full POW + no OP_Return... mix in a reasonable premine dev fund that pays for the time + other more pressing projects/bounties and off to the fucking races we go.

V4 already had a premine IMO. PortlandHodl or whatever his name is with Mara or some other major pool has like 1 million. I would bet the house he would send them over to Greg with just a single email. My market only has buyers for ~100,000. Grin

Send the free market to "zero", launch v5, shut these OP_Return people up and let reality do its thing on all things.

Then let the current Testnet expire when the Dev fund runs out or the block reward reaches _ number (10 years?). Make it clearly displayed as well (donations, sales & txids) and donateable. Then it won't be viewed as unjust enrichment... Put in a little text that it could be replaced before the funds run out... add a little scare to even the dumbest investors, but not the ones dumb enough to invest in anything R_pple related. lol smh, puke.

It's a reasonable goal: helps bitcoin, helps pay you poor bastards that deal with code, helps pay you poor bastards that deal with people, helps keep developers from taking third-party jobs (sigh, maybe), and it gives people a testing environment to show why *insert the hot topic of the month here* is bad for Bitcoin or why it is good.
