As for me mixing the coin is the simple and favorite approach to follow. But if you think using a decentralized exchange is better then it should be a decentralized exchange that doesn't require KYC before withdrawals can be made. There are many decentralized exchanges that permit withdrawal before completing KYC it will support in maintaining privacy as an alternative to coinjoin or mixers.
To start with, if an exchange requires KYC they it's obviously a centralized one no real decentralized exchange requires KYC. Sometimes mixed coins can be noticed by CEX and brokers because of how anonymous the transactions tend to be. If the person intends to spend fiat and ends up moving coins from a mixer straight to a CEX account he's gonna have big issues except he uses a VIP account.
DEX would be a nice move in addition to mixing that way you could switch across major coins and still remain anonymous without much risks.
