If business owners, taxi owners, hotel owners and others who claim to be working for themselves need to depend on customers and customer satisfaction for profit, that is to be able to get money from them, are they really working for themselves?
Of course they are working for themselves. Note that self employment is the ability for you to be in total control of your business where you don't take command from anybody, in self employed business you make decisions and exercute them according to how you plan them without anyone making decisions for you. Unlike job where you don't make decision on your own. So self employment does not mean that you can make money without anyone patronizing you. As a matter of fact
I'mIn every business you need people to succeed. You can't completely be independent without having people that makes your business grow.
If you are running a taxi, you need passengers to make money. If they don't patronize you, you will not make profit even though the taxi is your own.
Also if you manage your personal hotel, you will needs people to Lodge in your hotel to make money. So if they don't lodge in your hotel, then there is no money for you. In everything we do in life we need people around us to succeed. You can't be man alone and succeed alone.
What could be the real definition of working for yourself?
Working for yourself is that you are the CEO of your business and not working for somebody.
