You're right, that's the introductory price. But what I am saying is that in the long run is the opposite, I am not in disagreement with you and I also agree with what you've said.

They're adjusting the prices that both of them doesn't benefit at all.

Yes, the price I pointed out is just a short-term way to gain customers from a competitive business. The last time I checked, the profit aspect of every business shouldn't be ignored and should be prioritized, or else the business will collapse.
However, after the execution of the competition based pricing, the business owner uses the 1cent strategy that if a product is $2, the business owner can sell it at $1.99 because to every customer, every discount counts.
