Interesting site. And for money they also offer "best expected models" and "statistical bomb" whatever that means. I think if the guys are professionals, they can beat 90% of participants on average, but this will not be enough to win, since randomness always matters. In any case, I don’t like Fantasy and racking my brains, I’ll probably use advice from there as well (free of course).
I just use Premier League itself to help me with EPL fantasy, but mostly, the site itself helps already (gives you chance of playing and gives you points collected) but yeah for CWC it looks bare so definitely need help at least in knowing who's likely to play.
I don't believe any of these paid options are ever worth it. Like you say, randomness is a big factor here and football is probably the one sport that hasn't (and I believe never will be) been cracked by any kind of model.
Problem with fantasy I guess is the ones really serious about it will use all kinds of tools (fixture efficiency and double weeks, price tools etc) but I suspect those are less useful in tournaments like these. This will be more about identifying (and getting lucky with) the players of the tournaments. They usually tend to be one-tourney wonders like how good Chiesa was in EURO and then never again after his injury. Or Enzo Fernandez at the last World Cup... or even Valencia, Gakpo. So yeah, luck.
