If I were you, I will never loan him/her money. In many occasions, I always state that we must gamble with safe money. Loan money isn't a part of safe money, we must gamble with our own money. And it should be not a big amount of money, too. Whenever we have spent all the allocation for gambling, it is better to stop temporarily.

Even worse for the addicts, it is better to recover the addiction firstly. If you know that one of you family members addicted to gambling, you need to suggest him/her and even accompany him/her to the doctor. If you loan him/her money, he/she will never recover the addiction problem. Even if he/she wants to gamble again after he/she recovers, he/she must promise that will never do the same problem.

I won't loan him money as it is his vice and not because of his basic needs. If he won't learn his lessons, then, you are just tolerating his vice. Even if he is a family member, you need to be firm with your decision, else, he would encounter problem later on. Maybe, much worst. So before it is too late, give him a lesson by not loaning him money. He may loan the amount from others, but it is not your business anymore. He should learn his lessons on his own. Because it will have an impact on him if the situation is really devastating on his part. If not, he will just continue what he is doing.
