I still use my Nano S that I bought many years ago. Allegedly, it can't contain the Ledger Recover code as its memory isn't big enough. We will never know for sure if that is true or not. I use the Nano S for some altcoins that I have and when I need a way to store stablecoins. I trust the Ledger enough for those purposes. But my bitcoin isn't there. And if tomorrow I needed a place to send a significant sum of BTC, Ledger would be way down on my list.
I'd be careful about using an obsolete device that no longer receives firmware updates, even if it doesn't have ledger recover.
And I agree with you 100% about Ledger's target audience. Bitcoin is no longer the company's priority (could it be because it's a UTXO-based currency, which doesn't have as many complications as the ETH, SOL networks?), perhaps the same goes for Trezor.

Agreed, there's really no reason to discard the device you already own. I still use my old nano s+ mainly for testing and experimenting with different types of transactions on testnet simply because I prefer to explore any details before committing anything to mainnet. That said, when it comes to actual mainnet use, my go-to hardware wallet is Passport Core.
I also don't see any reason to discard my Ledger Nano X, but I don't trust it as much as other brands: Trezor, Bitbox, coldcard, passport...
