You've done nothing wrong introducing Trust Wallet to anyone, it's one of the best self-custody wallets you can find out there, and I use it a lot.
Probably OP is referring to a bitcoin wallet as it compares it with Electrum. Trustwallet is one of the worst bitcoin wallet that I have ever seen.
Also for other coins, there are some issues you will have on Trustwallet that you will need better altcoins wallet like Metamask for. Although, altcoins wallet developers have been so lazy, or probably because they are
almost all close source. I prefer to recommend hardware like Trezor for altcoins but they remain shit coins that should not be stored for long period of time.
I believe Trust Wallet is just being careful of due to the ownership by Binance since 2018, though it was created by Viktor Radchenko in the preceding year. Also, I've never heard of any direct shady activity with it unless the owners compromise their wallet.
Careful of what?
Electrum Wallet is only for Bitcoin, while Trust Wallet gives you the opportunity of more options. And one thing I noticed on the forum is that, some things are over-hyped than they are in actual experience.
Open source wallets are not overhyped, you should know the codes of where your money is which is how bitcoin was created. You do not need to trust but
to know the codes which is what the OP is asking.
