If someone becomes successful in sports betting over the long run, would you say that’s because of luck or skill?
Being successful with sports betting comes with both luck and skills input by the gambler, but most importantly, you have to be very lucky to have your skills turn useful. Because for what I know, gambling outcome is more of a luck standing than skills.

There have been times I make a lot of background work on the teams I wish to bet on and I still get to lose the bet but other times I had to not get serious but casually make a bet it happened that I won such bets more than when I have always gotten too serious about it.

Both will matter in sportsbetting even if you are a long-time bettor. For one, even if you know very well the athletes, the sports, coaches and all the people in the sports you are dealing with, still, there is some blind angles that you may not thoroughly factor in when you bet. Just like the weather condition or the humidity affecting the athlete's performance or the last minute change of strategy by the coach. Hence, for me, skills and luck go hand in hand in sportsbetting.

The wrong assumption here is that some people make money from gambling regularly. They are often not showing all the sources of income and this leads to difficulty in understanding the reality of the situation.

There is a debate but I feel that the magical thinking that a poor person can become rich by gambling is what is taking over and making people see wrong things.

For games that depend on luck, you cannot be sure thag everytime you play you will win.

You may have high chance of winning in sportsbetting if you are doing it for long time, but it doesn't mean that you will win every time you bet. But you have very good edge if you are doing it for years and years and you already memorize like every move of every athlete there is in the arena. Do remember, most gamblers will only post their winnings and not their losses. So we should not trust a sportsbettor that he always wins just because he's been doing these for quite a long time.
