and what stops 1 person from owning a lot more gear than you and hiding in different pools.

1 person can be 51% of the nodes and probably is and they can use vpns to make it look more decentralized when really it is not.

where as if each person could only have the same hashrate and or stake and only be 1 node, this can never happen.
