There is no better asset to diversify to, bitcoin should be the first choice and the second choice except you have some real-life assets that have potential value to appreciate as time goes on then you can alternate it with your investment is bitcoin. The market is full of worthless coins, it will be a total error to think that you can get smarter by diversifying into any shitcoins because you will lose in the end and regret why you made such a costly mistake. However, i think it will be more reasonable for you not to refer to bitcoin as digital assets because it just sound like someone who is classifying bitcoin with other cryptocurrency which is not an appropriate.

It is very simple and for clarification especially for those that have such mindset of calling their dealing with shitcoins diversification when they also have values in Bitcoin, it can never be called diversification by definition, for those who can not resist the temptation of shitcoins not having more than 10 size of Bitcoin is always advisable without cheating which of course a lot of people find it difficult to do so because of the hype and promises of making 10x over a short period of time, if not for greed of getting quick money which is very unrealistic people wouldn't have been getting involved with shitcoins.

Yes, diversification does not mean that the investor has to invest in Bitcoin along with other cryptocurrencies or gambling tokens. Diversification is done to reduce the risk. Not putting all the eggs in one basket, but in different baskets. But when he keeps his assets in shitcoin, his attention to Bitcoin will be lost. After holding shitcoins for a long time, when he loses that money, his greed will also affect his Bitcoin investment later. This will destroy his long-term dream of investing in Bitcoin. For diversification one can also keep his assets in real estate or any other platform, but when he keeps them in shitcons, he can be cheated at any time.

Diversity simply means to share your assets so you don't have only Bitcoin on your portfolio and I would prefer doing that on some coins that have proven to be trusted because like you said some altcoins that you might divide your assets to might get you all worked up, personally for me I think am okay with having to buy Bitcoin on a steady with the certainty that I don't have to go through any drama with making mistakes on following up on the wrong altcoin.
