Haha, last time I drank that I puked all over the side of the house!

Explosive puke!

It's not intended to be imbibed straight. It says right on the bottle, "extract, infuse, fortify".

My father told me about how many foolish North American soldiers died at the end of WW2 from showing off by treating full strength European spirits as if they were American or Canadian proof. He explained that that was the reason for "Willie King's Watered-down Whiskey" being limited to only 40% alc/vol. At 40% you'll either puke it up or pass out before you can consume a lethal dose. You're lucky you didn't drink it faster.

Even now, while you can buy Quebec Alcool 94% at some Liquor Control Board of Ontario outlets to use for making tinctures, etc., it's not displayed on the shelves.

The nanny state versus Darwin.

You can get distilled Ethanol ("Weingeist" - wine spirit, Primaspirit) in Europe up to 96%.

I know of one drinking-happy person who drank a sip of 80% before going to town.
When i asked why he replied: "Because after that shot everything else goes down like water". He is still alive, and especially his hometown/area is infamous for its heavy drinkers. It was fun going out with him, though. Not a mean person, and loss of control was rare. Still capable to play and teach Bass very well until today.
EDIT: Working hard (tons of lumberjacks, steelworkers and builders) and knocking each other out regularly with fists and drinking has a tradition in this area.

Nowadays it's the same with young people and opioids, but that's a different story.
EDIT2: and it's no more about working hard at all.

The most potent spirit i ever consumed was a Kontuschowka with 60% and a Grappa of the same strength.

I have had 151 proof rum.

Bicardi is rum.
