Szczęsny signed a new 2-year contract. I think it's the right decision and he will be useful for Barca. He performed very well last season. What I don't understand is that Szczęsny announced last season that he was retiring from football and then he came back and signed a contract with Barca. Now he'll continue for two more seasons. Was he suffering from a burnout syndrome? After he decided to retire, I think he realized that he couldn't do without football and decided to play as long as he was physically capable. It'll be interesting to watch him fight for the jersey with Joan García.
Szczęsny is one of those present goalkeepers I respect so much, one with a long admirable profile to his name, and no wonder Barcelona had to lobby him to return to active goalkeeping even after announcing his retirement. He made a lot of crucial saves last season which I think has earned him a contract extension from Barcelona. If he can only maintain a consistent form in next season's competition he may likely win the first team shirt  over Joan García.
Barcelona extending his contract is a good one because he is an experienced goal keeper that can be replied on in the goal post and Barcelona needs to get some top defenders before the seasons starts
