I have never been to prison and I never want to go in the future. I know it is very annoying and a lack of freedom. Besides, being without your own home and family is really another hardship. Only those who are in prison face this situation. But I do not know for sure whether people gamble inside prison, but maybe they gamble in different ways like cards or at home to pass the time. But I know that those who come from outside are smuggled, in any case they may gamble to pass the time inside prison or for fun. Yes, if gambling was really not forbidden inside prison, they would play it and lose, fight and get into a lot of debt.

Gambling do happens in prison, those who are powerful people that have been sentence for life, do this since they have money, like what you saw on some movies, but in a different way like you said, they might gamble what they have when they go to prison, since its a very important asset, and others want it, like what i heard in prison in our country, and if they have debt inside and unable to pay they might give service or death since they are already there and there no way out for others.
