Of course, Real Madrid is one of the best in Europe, but their performances so far have been starkly different. Real Madrid failed to win a single trophy last season, and then they also failed to qualify for the Club World Cup. Xabi Alonso will carry a huge responsibility for Real Madrid's campaign next season. He has the ability and has proven his worth with Leverkusen, but the two clubs are at completely different levels.
Alonso must immediately overhaul his squad to achieve balance across all areas. Weak defense, a lack of creativity in midfield, and a lack of sharpness in attacking must be solved. Real Madrid has a good squad, but I can't find a reason behind their decline in form, which raises questions.
Yeah, Real Madrid are normally the best in the Champions League...

Now that task has been taken by Xabi Alonso. If he manages to be successful about it in his first season then the golden age will be back for them.
