Hello, I received some bitcoin for somebody back in 2005
That's impossible. Genesis/first block mined in early 2009, while Satoshi shared idea about Bitcoin in late 2008.
i had the bitcoin account in my yahoo mail
From quick google search, Yahoo never offer custodial or non-custodial Bitcoin wallet service.
does anyone know of any way i might be able to recover the bitcoin somehow.
If you don't have private key, recovery words or wallet file, there's no chance to recover any Bitcoin.
