Yeah, Modric is a baller and still has the technical skills in his leg to throw those passes but the thing is, football right now has to also do with pace which his gone past that age. If you keep him in the middle, of course he can control and detect play but he has to be paired with players who can run, because once the ball is lost, he can't track back to recover the ball definitely because of his age, so he has to be paired with younger and faster players in the middle.

Modric didn't stand out much last year with Real Madrid. He'll easily perform similarly with Milan this year. With Milan aiming for the UCL next year, Modric will be the centerpiece of the midfield. He may be 40, but he's still playing exceptionally and running tirelessly.

In fact, AC Milan is not too good in terms of financial strategy like their financial state is a little bit poor. So that's why they try to sign some old players with low market value because old players have low market value and having a lot of experience. So I think AC Milan signed Luka Modric for this reason like his presence can give a chance to younger players to gain good experience.
