The emotional rollercoaster that comes with price volatility fear of missing out unexpected life expenses or even doubt during bear markets can shake even the strongest hands.

Long term holding does have great potential especially with assets like Bitcoin that are scarce and increasingly adopted. But as you said the real challenge lies in staying patient and disciplined over time. It is a mental game as much as a financial one. Recognizing the difficulty is actually the first step toward developing the strength to endure it.

I wonder how people will hold bitcoin for 5 to 10 years when they check bitcoin price daily, even hourly. They run around looking for any news when bitcoin price suddenly increases/decreases, or get disappointed when bitcoin drops 1% or even 5%, and panic when bitcoin drops 50% or more.

Not to mention, real life is always full of challenges and surprises. We have to earn every penny and save every bit, unlike those who are rich in millions/billions of dollars. So long term holding is really a challenge and not many people can do it.

Honestly, I also have a long term holding goal but I'm not sure I can do it because life never goes as expected. We can wait, but can our parents and children wait another 5 or 10 years?...
