Sometimes an old athlete may want to come back for some special match. Some bettors might still bet on him despite of old age and lack of recent experiences in the sport. That is because of what we call nostalgia. They might recall the past memories or past performances of the athlete that may not necessarily reflect the recent performance of the athlete. So be careful when betting because you might just be nostalgic.
Exactly!
I believe you're talking about boxers, right? People like that, who left the ring on the height of their fame, already have their finances pretty well. They don't return to fighting because they need the money, right?? They won't fight for it. But don't be fooled into thinking they are also entering the ring just for fun... they do want to win!
They obviously miss the adrenaline, but also the glory... Boxing is addictive in terms of adrenaline, competition, and recognition, but I don't think nostalgia alone is enough to make them return into the ring. In my opinion, they want to be the "center of the spotlight" again, to be recognized as an athlete who still capable of being the best and not just someone from the past. That's why they will always strive to emerge victorious, even years later.
But I agree with most people here... these people no longer have a daily training routine, their bodies arent' longer used to punching or being punched, their speed, their strength have decreased... I don't like betting on boxing, but if I did I would avoid betting on these fights between ex-veterans.
