The last big money buy for Real Madrid was Bellingham and between the summer transfer of 2020 till date, Real Madrid has spent a total of €303.5 million on purchase of players. That's to say, in the last 5 years, Real Madrid spent this amount of money and had sales of players within this same period at €301.35 million. I'm just marveled at this because before now Real Madrid was known for spending big but now seems it has changed and it's the other teams that are the big spenders now.
The Imbalanced spending ended a long time ago, probably over a decade ago. This Time round when Perez took over, the signing of players is based on smart planning not on impulsive buying like Barcelona did during the same period.

If you noticed, most of the good big signssignings are even on Free transfers. Knowing that they would buy a player very expensively, Real Madrid somehow manages to convince an interested a player to run their contract, move on a free transfer but a very good salary bonus vs if they had just bought him. Funny thing is they rarely let the same player leave as a free agent, they most sell him where there is still some value.
