I don't think that the main reason why discretionary funds are important in terms of Bitcoin investment is not what you assumed. The main reason for having discretionary funds is to ensure that someone does not tamper with the money meant for essential needs just to invest in Bitcoin. This helps the investor avoid falling into a state of depression.Also, we don't need a large amount of money to start investing in Bitcoin. By using the DCA method to accumulate Bitcoin, as long as we have a source of income and maintain discretionary funds, we can consistently use part of those funds for our DCA strategy.

Sure, the reason why discretionary income is needed for accumulating bitcoin is mostly because our investment in bitcoin should be targeted towards longer term and such it will be unwise to invest money that we will needing or using for our daily expenses and also there is risk involved investing in bitcoin and such it should always be advisable to invest in bitcoin money that we can afford to lose. So since discretionary income is money that is left over after attending or meeting all our needs or expenses, it won't be much of stress if we are to invest it in bitcoin and since we won't be needing it now.

Ordinarily, discretionary income is needed to serve as chain guides to physical businesses. That is to help the business keep fit by just pushing in resources out of your own discretion pending any happening like inflation.
