That's a wrong mindset your friend has got there. It's not that people don't get rich through gambling. They do but it's not an obsession for them. It just happens by luck. It's not something they planned it must happen, at least with a few I've seen who got big wins through it. It's something they hoped would happen but never made it a-do-or-die stuff. I don't know how close you're to him but I do think that at this stage in his life, it would be a difficult task for you to stop your friend, except you can afford him a tangible source of earning away from gambling. Your friend is addicted at this point. The only remedy now is to get his family members into his habit, in case they didn't know, as a way of getting him help.
