Sadly enough, I have been in a position in which I have been able to witness people who have chosen gambling as a do-or-doe situation, because the economical state of the country. Sure, we could argue those people could do some manual work and earn their living off of it, because I am talking about unskilled workers living in the poorest zones of my republic, so it is not a surprise they have found themselves gambling for money to get food...
Thankfully the epidemic of gambling to be able to get food has stepped down and it is not so serious and it used to bed a decade ago, but I still remember it very well, even people in my extended family had to gamble in the afternoon so they could continue working next day, it was simply devastating. If you research about the Venezuelan economical crisis you would understand the scope how what I am talking about.
