We need to be aware that sports betting platforms don't invest in sports because they love it... they do it because it's the best advertising for them. At the end of the day, it's all just business.
Over the past few decades, betting companies have grown enormously, I guess we can say the internet helped a lot. Today they are available 24/7, anywhere in the world. Their offers have also become much more advanced... There are so many markets and betting options that it's almost unbelievable. You can literally place a bet on almost anything that might happen during a sporting event. We can say they are evolving, but their impact on sport is just money they pour into it just for the sake of more visibility & self-promotion.
I think it's the same with other sponsors, they invest in sports for the sole purpose of making a profit. It could be argued that investments made by gambling platforms are mutually beneficial. A football club can recruit high priced players and pay their salaries thanks to sponsorship deals. For some clubs, gambling sponsorships even become a primary source of income, enabling them to maintain their existence for long periods.
