Luis Enrique took a huge risk by letting Donnarumma go. Despite his strategic needs, relying on the inexperienced Chevalier is a gamble. PSG should be retain Donnarumma at all costs, he was a key pillar in PSG Champions League success last season. Donnarumma reportedly demanded a higher salary increase in contract extension discussions, which PSG are reluctant to meet.

If Donnarumma were to leave for Manchester City, I think it would be a good move for his career, but so far no official offer has been made. Situationally, Pep Guardiola would likely have to sacrifice Ederson if he signed Donnarumma, and that's likely to happen. If Chevalier fails to live up to expectations, Luis Enrique will face harsh criticism this season.
If everything was going well, Donnarumma would have stayed at PSG, but Donnarumma has only one more season left on his contract and PSG may not sign a new long-term deal with this goalkeeper, which is why PSG is planning to sell this goalkeeper within a year. If they cannot sell this goalkeeper within this one season, then this goalkeeper will become a free agent and move to another club, which is a huge financial loss for the club.
Many people may think that what is the problem for PSG if they sign a long-term contract with Donnarumma? PSG is thinking about the financial aspects of the club. If PSG signs a long-term contract with this goalkeeper for another 5 to 6 years, then at the end of this specific period, this goalkeeper will be old enough and will not have such interest in Europe. Then PSG will be forced to release this goalkeeper as a free agent. Even then, this is a financial loss for PSG. I think the PSG management has taken this decision considering all these things.
