The importance and maximum use of the lightning network is usually when fees are very high and transactions are becoming to expensive to consolidate, else during periods like this when fees are low and stable on chain is almost as fast as using lightning network with almost same fees.
UTXO consolidation requires on chain transaction. LN cannot help with that. LN is useful to avoid having many small on-chain UTXO in first place to avoid needing consolidation altogether by having one UTXO.
