Trezor is a good hardware wallet that I also recommend to people. We are following the wallet closely on this forum. But I prefer an airgapped hardware wallet instead and the one I prefer most among them is Foundation Passport.

Sure, sounds like a good thing but it is definitely not for everyone. I like the diversity of devices and features, as long as they have at least some basic standards of security that I would require of all wallet providers to have.

Wrong. Firstly, that is not a threat at all. You are just bypassing some restrictions by using a different IP. Secondly, if you can't trust Ledger's software or hardware then using a VPN will not help you with anything.
