Did i already mention that i miss the sound of 56k modems, but i still dream about them sometimes?
That sounds fun to use as a ringtone.
I only wait until i have some spare time to make this brilliant idea real  Cool Grin
Thanks.

I'm a big fan of personalized ringtones! Stealing the idea after OutOfMemory  Tongue

You're welcome  Grin
As soon as it was possible to use custom ringtones, i did so. I particularly remember my old Samsung GSM phone, where you had to encode the ringtones in some fancy compressed wav format and transfer it via cable onto the device. You also had to compress the hell out of the audio to swamp the noise of the compression algorithm. This was long before touchscreens and even years ahead of 3G.

Thanks to the links here, i can use a variety of modem sounds (and dramatic orchestral pieces), as i like to assign distinct tones to special individuals.
When my mother is calling, the harmonica signature from Ennio Morricone's "C'era una volta il West" goes off Cool

EDIT: My standard ringtone at the moment is the plucked guitar intro of "Could you be loved" (Bob Marley) in a 1 bar-loop. Occasionally it happens that somebody nearby in public will sing or hum along when it goes off  Smiley

How fuck@#$ weird is this?  I didn't even know about yt-dlp until just two days ago when I read an article in HackerNews informing people that they could no longer rely on the native JavaScript... ah, rather than paraphrasing, here's the quote:

Up until now, yt-dlp has been able to use its built-in JavaScript "interpreter" to solve the JavaScript challenges that are required for YouTube downloads. But due to recent changes on YouTube's end, the built-in JS interpreter will soon be insufficient for this purpose. The changes are so drastic that yt-dlp will need to leverage a proper JavaScript runtime in order to solve the JS challenges.

Anyway, I was surprised to see it mentioned here so soon after first learning about it.  For the most part, I have been using web-based downloaders - nice to know there are other options.

I like it convenient, i am using jDownloader2 to grab Youtube media from a link, it offers me to download the audio (m4a) separately from the video stream file and decodes it inline using an ffmpeg-plugin. I do the processing in Audacity (which i was using for ages after "Goldwave" wasn't maintained anymore) and send it to the Smartphone via USB as 128kBit mp3.
