They invested in the coin, not in dev's business, which is the exchange.

No they didn't. They invested because they thought the coin would be different than from all of the other POS coins. They thought this coin was also a BUSINESS. Alot of people feel like they were fooled, and were just part of the dev's marketing strategy.
