No wonder. Europeans on average pay VERY high energy costs. So, they won't be a large enough group to play a more prominent role.

Although in the UK, France, and eastern Europe, the cost is much lower, which is why I never noticed. Also I am not convinced that Europeans need to be able to mine profitably in order to use bitcoins.
