BTW, how can the data of the internet be passed through 1000 masternodes without clogging things up? Is that even remotely possible? I'm not technical, so I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks

As bandwidth (and CPU, and disk space) demand grows, MN ops are going to have to pay for much beefier servers. Which shouldn't be a problem, as revenues will grow accordingly.
As time moves by, better CPUs and more disk space will be more affordable. This is just how it goes.
Imagine how much an i5 CPU would have costed 5 years ago, or a 4TB HDD.
One shouldn't worry about masternodes here.
