the way you described - yes i agree. but there's another scenario that can happen: you put a buy order --> someone sells to it --> next cycle the trader puts another buy-order up but unfortunatelly in this cycle your sell-order didn't get filled --> someone sells to it --> next cycle the trader puts another buy-order up but unfortunatelly in this cycle your sell-order didn't get filled --> someone sells to it......and so on.

"free money" is something different :-)
