One option is to re-flash your S1 with the latest firmware from the Bitmain support page. Another option is to install cgminer 4.6.0 as described elsewhere in this forum. The process for that is
login to your S1 with Putty, then enter the following:

cd /usr/bin
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer
chmod 755 cgminer
reboot

may i ask what is Putty? telnet client? http://www.putty.org/ i did my research but im new to this putty thing. is it ok to ask step by step instruction on how to do it? sorry kinda noob on this... just in case i made a mistake is there a downloadable default file? or could i get it from another s1 unit? Yes, Putty is an SSH client, you can use the default settings, enter the ip address of your miner (need to accept the initial security certificate on first use).
re-flashing the Bitmain firmware would be simpler though.
