If you think that the dollar is a scam because it is a fiat currency, then it is far from the first. Fiat based currencies are thousands of years old.

Before the dollar there was the british pound that dominated as the world reserve currency because the United Kingdom more or less ruled the world in a similar way that the US has massive influence throughout the world today
