Re: can't sweep accounts

You are right about broadcasting although I don't know exactly what it is I remember that button so I did the transaction again and hit broadcast.

error: {u'message': u'64: dust', u'code': -26}

whatever this means. It's not a huge deal, the account I'm trying to sweep has only 0.000004 BTC but still I'm trying to learn how to use the functions on Electrum

Maybe because 0.000004 is way too small to sweep?

Agree, the 'dust' part in that error message also makes me think that the amount is way to small so the transaction/sweep is being rejected.

Its because the default wallet file is still on your PC. So each time you install Electrum it picks it up.

You can either delete it, check in User/AppData/Roaming/Electrum/wallets or you can just create a new wallet from the file menu.

Just make sure that you have no coins on the wallet you are deleting and also make sure that you have a backup of that wallet even if you do not plan on using it again, you never know and never is a long time.

Re: Is there a way I can remove some of the addresses on my HD wallet on Mycelium?
by

on 14/10/2015, 06:35:09 UTC
No there is no way to remove any of the addresses. That is how HD wallets are supposed to work, they create a new address for each new transaction.

You can give out the same address the whole time if you want so that all incoming funds go to a single address, that might help.

If that does not work for you then you can also create a single address and then use that address for sending and receiving funds. A single address/key can be created in MyCelium in the accounts section.

IMPORTANT: If you do create a single address remember to make a backup of that address/key. The address is not part of your other HD wallets and will not be restored when you restore the other HD wallets. If you do not make a backup you can lose everything that is stored on that address.

Does anybody know whether this project is still actively being developed?

Checked on Github and see there has hardly been any updates for almost a month. Also, version 0.6.0 was scheduled for release in June if not mistaken but it has been delayed. Current version, 0.5.0 is miles behind the other Electrum based releases and the current Encompass version is in serious need of an update.

Re: Receiving bitcoin on expired wallet ?

All your addresses can be found under the 'Address' tab.

Once a address has been used it is moved to a folder called 'Used' so if you do not see one of your older addresses then make sure to check the 'Used' folder.

And as others have already mentioned, all your addresses remain valid, they do not 'expire'. You can receive funds on any of the addresses so you can give a single address out multiple times for various transactions.

You mention you are new to 'Electrum', did you make a backup of the seed words? If not then please do and keep that backup in a safe place. Without that you will not be able to recover your Electrum wallet should something go wrong. Most of the problems posted here in regards to Electrum has to do with people who forgot to backup the seed words and because of this could not access and or recover their wallets.

Sound like a good idea but there is one problem though, you are going to end up holding bags full of altcoins nobody wants.

You will most probably also run into problems when trying to get rid of some of the altcoins as not all of them are as tradable as bitcoin. So they might end up being worthless, or close to it, by the time you do manage to get rid of them.

I agree Sentinel is looking good. However I'd like to add several xpubs. A merge between Sentinel and Bitcoin Balance would be ideal. Do you know how to contact the Sentinel devs?

I don't care about mobile friendliness in a browser so much. I'd rather have a one tap app, instead of having to: open browser, navigate to the page, login, etc.

Have a look at Coyno. You can enter several xpubs from MyCelium, Trezor, Electrum etc.. and can also add in single addresses if you want.

Gives you a nice overview of your total holding.

Version 2.4.2 was released today, with OSX and Windows binaries.
See https://electrum.org/#download

However, hardware wallets (trezor, ledger) are not supported in the current Windows binaries.
If you use a hardware wallet, please wait until we have better binaries.

Try to use another Operating system (Linux or Mac) and try since he said only Windows binaries .

Thanks. Guess that explains it. I will have to use an alternative for the time being.

Just get version 2.3.2, I use it with a Trezor and it works fine.

You can get all the downloads from here https://download.electrum.org/

The checks and balances BitPay had in place clearly leaves a lot to be desired.

The fact that a company can just make payments valued at close to $2m just on the basis of an email clearly shows that their internal security and systems are not up to scratch.

I've I was the insurer I would also decline to pay.

Re: Banks' own Blockchain?
by

on 16/09/2015, 14:36:42 UTC
But will it be a public ledger, can be mined publicly?

I just don't see how it is possible to create a private network and "mine" it.
Makes no sense.

Ripple is different though, as far as I understood. Ethereum has mining, and therefor is public?

Need to read up more on these things later tonight.

No, it wont be public nor will it be mined by the public.
It will save them money and time to confirm money transfers from bank A to bank B.
They will still charge you the same and it will probably take as long for you to "transfer" the money because it makes them more money.

Have to agree, there will most definitely be benefits and cost savings for the banks should they start doing their transactions on a blockchain type technology but I seriously doubt whether the clients will ever see those benefits and or cost savings trickle down to them.

Re: Warning about portable versions
by
3888
on 16/09/2015, 14:29:07 UTC
Electrum_LTC portable on the other hand works as it should. Even the latest version, 2.4.3.1 works just fine, whether portable and or install versions. The portable version creates and or uses the folders, files and wallets within the same directory.

Hm, i did not know there is an LTC Version and that there already exists a portable version for 2.4.3.1. I'm puzzled why that is so. Is the team coding on both versions different?

I sometimes have the impression that old errors, that already had been fixed once, were reimplemented. For example the missing socks setting looks like such. I think i already have seen that error fixed some months ago.

Below are the links to the LTC version website and their downloads.

The current BTC version is on 2.4.4. and the latest LTC is on 2.4.3.1.The BTC version, for Windows, have no support hardware wallets and the account labels (used with multiple account like when you have a Trezor) still does not work. The LTC version (which is actually behind) have full hardware wallet support and the account labels works perfectly.

So I'm currently running 2.3.2 for the BTC version as I have a Trezor and 2.3.2 is the last stand alone that works properly and which have hardware wallet support. On LTC I run the latest version (2.4.3.1) without any problems with the stand alone version.

I posted earlier that the current BTC version is now essentially cripple ware in so far as a Windows/Trezor user is concerned.

Re: Electrum 2.4 binaries
by

on 16/09/2015, 14:11:16 UTC
Any updates on when the next binaries will be available ?

Also, will hardware wallets be supported in the next release?

I was reading on DASH (Darkcoin) Altcoin thread and I saw that OP said that they funded Electrum project so  I assume that the late updates for Electrum BTC is because of Electrum DASH if the developpers are the same of course .

Could be but what I do not understand is that the LTC version, which is essentially a clone of the main BTC version, is miles ahead of the BTC version. They are at version 2.4.3.1 and everything is working. Thinks like hardware wallet support, account names/labels that do not disappear the whole time etc....

The BTC version (2.4.4.) has no hardware wallet support, the account labels is still a problem as they keep on disappearing etc..

At this stage the BTC version seems like cripple ware compared to the LTC version.

Ok. I have received confirmation that the app will be available in November 2015 so until then I will keep the wallet in the drawer.
There is an issue with it. I don't know why but the battery is discharging SUPER FAST. I mean without using it in less than 48 hours is depleted.....

This is far from the 20 days standby time promised. Any ideas suggestions ?

I was really interested in this project but now not so sure anymore. The fact that they actually shipped the wallets knowing that their software was not ready and that it would not be ready for about 2 months is not good. This was not mentioned anywhere and the least they could do was to either hold back the shipments and or inform all clients about this fact.

Also very worrying is the fact that you mention that you cannot touch base with anybody at their support. Makes you wonder what the support will be like once this wallet ships in larger numbers. I'm also concerned about the short battery life. From what you are saying I assume that this wallet will only be good for say two or three transactions a day or in between charges. If this is the case then it would be pretty useless to me.

Will keep a lookout for more updates but don't think i will be getting one of these anymore.

Re: Warning about portable versions
by
3888

I won't be arguing about security. But i have remark about behavior of the portable version. When this version by default creates wallet somewhere deep in the guts of OS where is portability here? I believe that really portable version should handle data file in the same folder where executable is.

I know there is way to assign wallet file from a defined folder. But not create one. Also there are plenty people who able to backup folder with his/her data, but not that many of them able to write shell file to assign wallet file for this binary. Ask them to find where wallet was created and it will be a real challenge.

Portable version should be really portable, otherwise what is the difference with installation?

The portable version was 'fully' portable up to and including version 2.3.2 meaning that it created all the data folders, files and wallets within the folder from where the exe was started. You could thus copy the electrum portable exe file to a usb drive, start it up and it would create all the folders, files and wallets in the same location on the usb drive which made it 'portable'.

The later versions of Electrum-BTC however no longer functions like this. The latest binaries that were released do not even support Trezor anymore so not to sure what is going on with Electrum but I'm personally not very impressed with the way things are going. The 2.4 binaries have been out almost a month already and still no update to add back in support for hardware wallets.

Electrum_LTC portable on the other hand works as it should. Even the latest version, 2.4.3.1 works just fine, whether portable and or install versions. The portable version creates and or uses the folders, files and wallets within the same directory.

Not sure why Electrum-BTC no longer works that way as Electrum-LTC is essentially a clone of it so not sure why the LTC version can work properly, including with all supported hardware wallets, while the BTC version seems crippled.

I've spoken to quite a number of people about bitcoin and so far I could only get two to actually setup wallets and to buy some dust from me.

Most of the others like the concept, although few understand it fully, but they are still to sceptical to invest anything. Think the overriding reason is that there are not many places where they can spend it at this stage.
