Re: Would you put all your savings money into BTC?

I didn't plan it this way, but at the moment, I do have more savings in BTC than in USD in a bank, but that's only because I've been holding a few coins since early 2011.

Still In. Original deposit on CL was 1btc, with interest, it had grown to 1.09027010. I would be willing to regain only my original deposit of 1 btc and forgo the interest. At this point, I have not recovered anything and have heard nothing at all from TF.

Re: Beware of PayPal and other reversible transfer services

Does Paypal have any problem with receiving money from BTC-e in USD. I funded BTC-e with BTC and having sold some of it would like to pull out some of the USD. As it would be going to my own personal account at Paypal from my personal account on BTC-e and only involves USD, would Paypal have any reason to hold the account for any reason? I have no interest in doing trades with individuals on PayPal because of the reversability issue, but would like to be able to transfer USD out of BTC-e without jumping through major hoops.

Namecheap accepts bitcoin?

Yes, you can fund your spending account at NameCheap with BTC and use it to pay for any of their services. I just used BTC there to pay for a year's hosting and about 10 domain transfers. Simple to use.

If the house is in the middle of a forest, is it safe to assume that it has a wood stove for heating? If not, that would be on the top of my list. A lot of self-sustainability is about mind-set and looking at behaviors that use less energy. Look for books by Gene Logsdon on homesteading topics - he has several and they're all quite good.

I spent several hundred USD worth of coins on hosting and domains for my biz. It's very helpful that NameCheap accepts Bitcoin for all charges.

Thanks! Looks like fun but I'll have to see if it behaves better on a different browser - my LInux-based moz client is acting a bit wonky.

Main system: Linux Mint 12 Debian LXDE
Netbook: Linux Mint 12 Debian LXDE / Win7 (Windows mostly for testing websites for browser compatilbility and txtime)
Laptop: AVLinux with full recording suite / WinVista (ugh! but keep it for testing)

I'm too much of a noob to really critique your ideas on this, but it certainly has potential and I would be interested in hearing more as time goes on. Surveillance is an issue for me, not because I'm doing anything worth hiding, but because because it flies in the face of the basic rights of the citizenry.

Re: How much do you have invested in bitcoins?

I don't remember what I paid for the 15 BTC I bought early in 2011, but it was very little, probably about $1USD per coin, and was purchased to do some testing for a web client. He scratched the project and I left the coins in a wallet on my hard drive. Didn't give 'em much thought at all until this last week and just for grins, decided to see if I could restore that wallet. Copied the wallet to my laptop, where I installed the updated program and the coins were intact. Nice chunk of change now!

When I visited the site, it was my first visit and there was nothing to watch. I went back a little later and there was one, so I watched and the system appears to be working fine. Thanks for the info!

How many videos are likely to be available in a day's time (for US visitors)? I just checked out the site, but there weren't any to watch.

I'm a linux nerd, so take my advice with a grain or two of salt, but my first suggestion would be to copy the wallet.dat file someplace safe and then re-install the program. That's how I handled moving my wallet from a no-longer-used partition on my PC to a new location. Once it finished syncing, all was fine. Windows folks can verify if this will work, I suspect.

Which OS is this script for? I'm guessing Windows since it's a bat file, but it would be helpful to include that info in your post.
