They can always to a better job. But whitecoin doesnt have any marketing at all. truth to be told. therefore, blackcoin already beated whitecoin at marketing.
The only reason why whitecoin has its succes is because blackcoin has its succes and all the people that lost money on the pump try to get it back using the whitecoin train.

Whitecoin is premined so without anyone doing anything the greedy dev has already sown the seed of Whitecoin's destruction. Coins which give premined coins to the dev never go far. It's a permanent black mark against the coins name.

See MINT as a recent example.

I say to anyone, if you believe in long term value investing go with coins like BTC, LTC, PPC, DOGE, BC etc.

True, but whitecoin 's symbol (WC) is shorthand for a toilet. Just think, it could easily be turned into a digital payment to get into pay toilets all around Europe.

Impressive price movement. One thing I'd like to chime in about is I really hate the catchphrase "Once you go black..." that's plastered on promo posts. It doesn't do any clever wordplay, it just leaves a juvenile thought hanging mid-sentence. I'm supposed to finish it myself in my head, I guess, with "you don't go back" or "you're a single mom" but if you wanted to go with a stupid cliche for advertising some kind of twist on it would be better than the lazy way out of making people finish it themselves.

Attention for breaking the record will be good but I don't look forward to explaining it to normal people who ask.

"So they are now finding the largest primes?"
"Uh, no, now they are finding the largest prime 6-chains which means..."
"zzzzz...."

Lol you idiot believers have no way of knowing if the dev and his friends are just transferring aur to themselves and selling it. All they need to do is make a new address for each transfer. Then use a different deposit address for each deposit to an exchange. They don't need to consolidate anything. Without complete transparency you have no way of knowing if the dev's are selling it all or not. Don't tell me you can look at the blockchain for transparency, if you think that is all that is needed you are either trying to scam or are just completely retarded. If you support this coin you are a moron.

If I recall correctly, there was a GPU miner for primecoin that somebody claimed to be developing, and took donations for it, but never delivered.

As far as I know there still is no GPU miner for primecoin, mostly because the CPU is still needed to do certain things efficiently, but the communication time between the CPU and GPU killed any performance gains from the GPU running any part of the code. Or it was something to that effect, AFAIK.

If it would be possible to make a GPU miner I think that would be better long-term for this coin. CPU coins get dominated by botnets, drowning out potential profits from people running it legitimately, since botnet operators don't care about electricity costs. That kind of kills a lot of potential enthusiasm for it. There's only so many people in the world willing to lose money calculating prime numbers for fun.

I don't have time to play around with it much because of work, but would it be worth it to optimize for processors without AVX2, but with AVX? The computers I can throw at this coin aren't new enough to have AVX2 available. Or does the AVX2 build have code paths for different instruction sets, with detection of CPUID or similar?

How are you all using the avx2 version?

I downloaded it and it is just a file and not a program like the sse4 version.

If it needs compiled does anyone have a compiled version for windows?

I think the avx2 version is Linux only.

Is is just me or the blockchain is stuck at block 5080?

At the time of this post this was 5 hours without a new block according to my client and various block explorers.

edit: 5081 just appeared, with a massive gap to 5080, what happened?
To help with the long block times I'm having a 0.25 BTC give away for the next block finder at http://aur.scrypthp.com lets get through these rough times and hopefully have smooth mining once the hard fork occurs!

That's nice, but I'm not really a fan of these kinds of giveaways as it is way more likely to reward the big players who are already getting most of the block rewards anyway.

Just to be a pedantic dick I don't think this is science, it's math (and math is most definitely not science), which is fine too.  Smiley

i am studding relativity right now. please come and tell me about math being DEFINITELY not science...

If you have a real thought, you can elaborate it and share it with the class. There's lots of explanations for why math is not science all over the intarwebs, you can go look yourself. I'm not hijacking this thread with a philosophical discussion, I just wanted to make a point that I see math being called a science a lot lately, and it isn't. It's nice for you that you are just now studying relativity. If you want to play the "appeal to authority game" to justify an argument, that's a pretty un-mathy thing to do.

I don't really care about the definition much, but what irks me is why math people (and people who suck at math but still post Neil Degrasse Tyson pics and say "science is cool, lolz") get offended about their maths being called "not science", but then don't have a solid and accurate definition of science on hand to justify why math is a science. This is especially funny when math is all about rigorous definitions, so it should be easy for them. It's relation to science is that it is used to describe scientific concepts, like a language.

Why do math people want math to be science, anyway? It isn't. That's not bad, better, or worse. It just is. Why is this a problem? Why is this offensive? If you are a mathematician, you can be proud of it. Math is used for lots of things, including modeling a lot of scientific things. But it isn't, in itself, science.

To remove the 10% dev fee on b8 version just edit the binary using vi editor :

vi xptminer-sse4-b8

:,$s/RUhMA8bvsr48aC3WVj3aGf5p1zytPSz59o/Your_Address/
(ENTER)
:wq

Are you sure this works? Ypool still reports a 10% fee for workers.

Yes, the fee goes to Your_Address...

Are you sure, because the address I used as a replacement wasn't showing up on ypool's dev fees page (the one that shows the balance of dev fee accounts)

I don't think that dev page updates very often. Check the latest block and you'll see a list of the dev addresses with current balances.

I'm glad I'm not mining RIC anymore, 3-5 guys are mining 50% of the coin, super fun! No wonders why this coin is dying and price 1/10th of what it used to be, it's a dump festival!

Would it be funny if the people who use optimized miners without releasing them actually significantly contribute to the unpopularity of the coin they are milking, thus reducing their own potential profits?

It doesn't hurt to keep the rigs running and see if they will come back again. I would see how about getting compensated for any losses if they pressure you again.

There would never be any compensation, nor should there be. If their equipment is designed and operated according to FCC guidelines, they aren't in the wrong.

Re: Verizon came to my house, asked me to turn off my rigs

Two things:

1) If your rigs are emitting enough RF "noise", then it wouldn't be that hard for VZ techs to find the source.

2) 835 MHz != 850 MHz.  I know the numbers look like they are "close" but not when it comes to RF.  Look at how many channels we have for Wifi. The non-overlapping ones are 25 MHz apart (same as 835 to 850).  You can have two wifi networks running right next to each other, one on channel 1 and one channel 6, and have them work perfectly.

I too call BS.

The noise might not only be generated at 835MHz, it probably has a peak at 835MHz with a rolloff to adjacent frequencies.

Even if it does only emit at 835MHz, the band-pass filters for the equipment that communicates with those voice frequencies are only made to block out unwanted frequencies up to a certain amplitude. You can, for example, generate a white-noise machine that makes all FM radios in the area useless by using a 100MHz oscillator with an amplifier, simply because the filters used on the radios aren't designed to anticipate a white noise source right in the middle of the frequency range that is so much stronger than the signals from radio stations.

Your wifi network example only works because the equipment was designed with that use case in mind, plus each frequency range has a buffer zone to avoid significant pollution into the adjacent ranges.

So no, it is not BS.

Seriously, just deal with it. Block the EM noise yourself if you want. Now that you are on their radar, if you don't fix the problem by either using adequate shielding or turning it off, you will eventually get the FCC involved along with a court order.

This isn't even something worth fighting on principle. These laws exist for a reason. If there wasn't strict regulation of EM interference we wouldn't be able to use all of the modern wireless technologies today without a lot more problems. The little boys telling you to ignore this are just being childish jackasses who aren't knowledgeable enough to have a valid opinion.

Fo anybody that wants to know more about national ID system in Iceland please feel free to check the link below.

http://bjss.bifrost.is/index.php/bjss/article/viewFile/63/65

It is clear that this idea can be executed via the ID system.

Do you think we are all retarded? Yes, we know there is a national ID system. We know what information is in it.

What you should have had, before a single coin was mined, was a detailed plan you could give to an Icelander about how they will get coins. Step by step, no hand-waived half-assed explanations. A fucking pamphlet you give to someone treating them like they are in kindergarten, with nice full-color cartoons with each step of what they will do to get their coins.

Here's just a few questions that we don't know, that would be nice to be answered instead of being hand-waived away with a condescending comment:

Will there be a website doing automated live checks of the database directly? If so, what are all of the implementation details? What information will each citizen need to prove their identity? Each Icelander has access to this database, so how can it possibly be used as an authentication mechanism to prove identity?
If automatic checks won't be used, will people have to wait while a person checks each individual request?
Will people get physical objects with instructions for redeeming coins? If so, what? What materials will be used? Who will do it? Where's the money to buy all this material coming from?

You people want ME to do homework? You're the one who wants to make this work. This shouldn't even be an issue! You should have had full-proof step-by-step plans an idiot could follow before day 1.

If you supporters are actually for real then I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. You are trying to supplant a national currency, on an arbitrary deadline, without exact implementation details worked out ahead of time. You want to take away a government's seigniorage and control of the money supply. That alone will make this really fucking difficult, not even accounting for everything else. This task requires more than a few bronies half-assing it while constantly high on marijuana.

Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland
by

I see your doubts and understand completely how you feel. But there is another way to look at this. Compare it to bitcoin, you started your "chime" with the right word, namely IDEA! This is all de dev had to introduce. Just like Satoshi Nakamoto did with only his whitepaper of a coin, later to become Bitcoin. But the dev did far more than just that, he paved the way voor a community (I mean guy's like us) to pick it up and together with him turn it into a success! And as one of the more serious contributors to this initiative I generated the feeling of trust along the way as I became more familiar with not only the real insights of the Dev, but far more important, the insights we as a community can bring together to really make this work!

You see, this is not done by a singel Dev (team), this can only work if the community behind it puts in its share. We all like Crypto because it takes control from banks and governments and gives is to us, the community. Therefor we (the community) must take that control, rather then sitting back and wait for a Dev-team to become the next bank that is the only one in control. That is exactly why Balduro has given us all the space to create our own control!

I totally get where you're coming from, community effort is great and all, but to be done properly the dev should have made a website, and posted on some message boards saying, "Hey I've got this idea, help me figure out how to do it, then once the plan is in place, we'll start the coin." BEFORE mining anything. Making a new coin isn't hard, so don't act like he's some kind of genius saint for copying a copy of a copy of a coin, which has been done hundreds of times already. That part isn't hard, the hard part is figuring out how to do this properly. Now the project is on a strict, arbitrary timeline.

Lack of proper planning only makes this less likely to succeed. If anybody really cared about making this a reality, the plan should have been in place before a single coin was mined.

If this fails, it will look bad for the crypto community. I mean holy crap, there's less than 3 weeks to the "airdrop" and we don't know the exact mechanism for it. It seems like this project is being treated like a final project for a class that everybody forgot to start until just before it was due.

By the way when I say "exact mechanism" I don't mean, "we're using a public database lolz". I mean, there should be a plan like, "Icelanders will go to this website, fill out this form, be verified this way, get the coins this way, with proof of receipt done this way...", or "This person is going to buy hundreds of thousands of stamps, envelopes, and letters, to send out codes to every Icelander, then they will redeem them this way, all using money that was raised from this source..."
