Happy 4th Birthday DigiByte!!

Found my first post in this thread all the way back on 12 Jan 2014 and I'm still mining DGB today!

Many thanks to Jared for all the hard work over the past years.

There's no announcements so far.

You can check the Citi twitter feed here: https://twitter.com/Citi

and you can see the results for the hashtag here: https://twitter.com/hashtag/CitiT4IChallenge?src=hash

I doubt they're going to announce the winners and not post an announcement on their official Twitter page or hashtag them with #CitiT4IChallenge

What's the real reason for the pump? I just started mining DGB for the first time in at least a year, what caused the pump. It wasn't really a broken wallet was it lol  Shocked

The real news for DigiByte is Digusign which is powered by the DigiByte blockchain.  Take a look here:

http://digusign.com/

That technology has made DigiByte a finalist in a Citibank Tech challenge and the presentation is going to be on the 9th of June.

http://www.techforintegritychallenge.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2017/02/Citi-Tech-For-Integrity-Challenge-Demo-Day-Finalists.pdf?x82031 See Page 34 of the PDF (Singapore)

Current pricing is nothing compared to what it will be if this tech gets picked up and used by a major financial institution.

dgb going 1k sat?

Looking at the market I think 1K sat is a low estimate.

If you look at both market cap and traded volumes, I don't think Digibyte should be down in 25th position on http://coinmarketcap.com/

Combine that with the recent good news regarding the Citi bank tech challenge, and I think we should expect at least double or triple the current value.  Even triple the current value, which would put DGB at around 2200 Sat would not bring us into the top 10 coins by market cap.

I do think there's likely to be resistance breaking key levels like 1000, 1500, and 2000 Sat on the way there, but the future looks bright for Digibyte.

My idea for the multilingual "DigiByte Accepted Here" would be to have "Accepted Here" written in all the languages, repeating over and over, as a watermark behind the main logo and main language (dependent on the region where it would be used).

Sadly I have no skills with InDesign or Illustrator, but I hope someone can picture what I have in mind.

AlexMc, your suggestion would go a very long way towards solving the problem I just mentioned above as both parties would be clearly identified and specifically tied to the transaction; moreover, if the option were given to the wallet owner to make the "verified addresses" setting a required default for all transactions, that would also go a long way towards making theft much more difficult (and whoever wants to ignore that additional security level would be free to do so . . . to each his own  Wink ).

I like the idea for securing the wallet by requiring "verified addresses" for all transactions.  This could also be implemented as a security option where transfers/payments to a verified address did not require the wallet passphrase, but all other transactions would still prompt for it.

Perhaps options something like this, where ( ) would be a radio button and [ ] is a check box:

Security Options (Making changes to these options will require your passphrase)

( ) Only allow payments to verified addresses
( ) Allow payments to all addresses

[ ] Require passphrase for payments to verified addresses

Note: Payments to non-verified addresses always require your passphrase if the wallet is encrypted.

A setup like this would be similar to the way my Internet banking works, where a payment to one of the beneficiaries I've added to my banking profile can be made without having to enter the one time PIN that is sent to my mobile phone for other payments to be authorised.

I don't see why a lack of transaction reversing in the wallet is a problem. Most reasons for people to reverse a transaction are not because of a flaw in the currency system, it's due to a flaw in human actions.

People have to think of cryptocurrency as cash, not as a credit system.

Think of how you use cash for transactions.

Is there a way to reverse a cash transaction? No, you have to ask the person for the cash back, and it's up to them to give it to you. If they don't, you are basically out of luck. This is not a flaw in the way cash works. If it was, people would have stopped using cash long ago. (Example: You hand someone $20 instead of $10. That's not the fault of the currency.)

If you want someone to provide a service and you pay them ahead of time in cash, you are trusting them to provide that service. If they don't, then you have to ask them for the cash back, or you sue them. There is no way to automatically reverse this transaction. This is a problem with a person trusting a person to do something. This is not a flaw in the way cash works. (Example: You need your car repaired and they ask for $500 before they fix it, but they never fix it. That's not a fault in the cash, that's your fault for paying ahead of time.)

You can reverse a credit card (CC) transaction, but that isn't cash. If there is a fraudulent charge on your credit card, you contact the CC company and they investigate and credit your account. They can't reverse that payment, they have to ask the fraudulent party for the money back or sue them. It's up to the CC company to resolve, or they absorb a loss like this. This is not a currency problem, it's a business problem with the CC company paying without verification. (Example: Company X double-charges your credit card. The credit card company pays Company X. That's not a problem with the currency, that's a problem with the CC company not verifying the charge, and the CC company will pay you back out of their own pocket after investigation.)

This is why people use credit cards. Think of credit cards as a 3rd party acting as a type of consumer protection. This should not be the job of the currency.

About the "Sending to the wrong address" problem - The ability to reverse a transaction is not the problem, verifying the correct address is the problem. If you need to transfer money from your bank account to someone else's bank account, do you blindly send to whatever account number they give you, or do you verify with them first that it is the correct number (you read it back to them or something). This is what crypto needs, some sort of encrypted over-the-internet digital handshake ability for verification before a payment is sent/processed.

Should address verification be part of the wallet? I don't think so. I think it should be a different application that runs in concert with the wallet and has access to your wallet's address book. To me, the wallet is simply that - a wallet in your pocket with cash in it that you can quickly use if you don't need to verify addresses.

I agree that paying someone the wrong amount or transferring to the wrong address is due to human error.  However, I don't think that where it's possible to reduce or eliminate the human errors, that it shouldn't be done.

Often one payment method is chosen over another because it offers some form of protection or convenience, or complies with a regulation.

I think the important thing is to give someone an option to use a feature, not force it upon them.

I'd love to see a DigiByte wallet that offered the choice to make an ad hoc payment, as it does now, but also an option to setup a "verified address".

This "verified address" could be setup in the wallet using some sort of 2 way communication, possibly with signed messages with reference numbers and a small "dust transaction".  This could then verify the identity of both parties, if they wanted or required it to transact.  In addition during the setup the parties might specify whether or not they would allow transactions made to be reversed or not, and possibly the window allowed to reverse the transaction.

We could then have an additional "Verified Addresses" filter/tab perhaps with a different coloured checkmark next to each address to indicate if reversible transactions were allowed.  Taking this a step further, if the data could be stored in an external database, it would then allow integration with point of sale or online payment systems.

A system like this would allow those who didn't care for it, or require it to ignore it and continue to transact anonymously.  It may however get those who currently won't use cryptocurrency for transacting to consider it.

not so weird, the system wants to get paid for services provided.

if the amount you are sending is large the system wants a min amount (IDK what that is) to send it, 2 DGB if farrrr more than enough.

I'm quite used to paying a transaction fee, and the wallet automatically determines the fee.  The thing I find strange is that I get a "transaction too large.." one minute, and then a few minutes later the same size transaction is not too large any more.  Also there's a large discrepancy in the transaction fee that was automatically levied.  The second transaction, which was for 14% more than the first, had a 500% greater transaction fee!

Transaction too large error when sending

Hi

Anyone else had this error when trying to send DGB from the Digibyte Core v3.0.3.0-g354c0f3-MultiAlgo (64-bit) wallet.  The transaction in question was for 1 million DGB.

I then managed to get it to send successfully for 879000 with a transaction fee of 0.04 DGB being added.  When I tried again a few minutes later it seemed happy to send 1 million DGB, but this time it added a transaction fee of 2 DGB.  Weird...

Any ideas.

What other exchanges should we target? We want to start reaching out to many more

I do some trading on Bter.com and the popular coins there do big volumes (hundreds of BTC).

They have a Voting Tab and DigiByte is listed, but currently we're down at position 120 out of 240 coins.  You get 5000 "trading points" for every BTC of trade you do, and a vote costs 100 points.

If you do want to signup please use my referral link below.  Using it will get you 10% discount off your trading fees for 6 months and I can use the referral bonus to put more votes towards DGB too.

https://bter.com/signup/223434

They also mention that if you get enough BTR (trading points) then you can get 1 to 10 free votes per hour too.  (I think you need over 1000 BTR points for that to kick in)

We can also try asking them on Twitter, apparently they have added popular coins through Twitter requests before.

https://twitter.com/btercom

Oh, and just as it's happened to me again (and I'm not sure why), but everytime I try to Reply to the thread with it's current Subject, I get a warning that the Subject is too long (over 80 characters) and I have to delete some of it.

Not sure if anyone else thinks this is a good idea? I thought it may be nice to add the code used to put the official DigiByte signature into your own to the OP.  Maybe under a "Spread the word, add DigiByte to your signature" section near the bottom.

The code was on page 789 for anyone else looking.

Something else I've been wondering about was the creation of a DigiByte Vanity Address Generator.  I've used a Bitcoin one before, and it was similar to mining, and fairly time consuming, but it's cool being able to have a DigiByte receiving address that has your name in it.  Something like DigiAlex1nGTsd5674....

Perhaps this is irrelevant now with QR codes, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would waste some processing time or pay some DigiBytes to have a cool primary receiving address.

Nice work on the YouTube video on How to install the wallet.

My only suggestion would be to get rid of the music, as I find it a bit distracting.

Also, and I may be wrong about this, but I don't think you need to backup the wallet after every transaction.  It's only necessary to back it up again after adding addresses.

Great to see all the new announcements and participation from the community!

hey everyone Smiley wondering if anyone can help me, im having trouble getting my wallet to sync i have updated to the latest version and it seems to be stuck at block 414819, like 3 days behind, it has been doin this for about 24 hours now, if anyone could help me i would much appreciate it Smiley thanks

Hi

Had the same problem this morning with a friends wallet.

Try running "C:\Program Files\Digibyte\Digibyte-qt -reindex"

It took a bit of time to do the reindex, but it's working fine now.  I'd suggest you take a backup of your wallet.dat before you start, just in case.

We are looking to have a professional promo video created for DigiByte. Does anyone have any suggestions or know anyone we could get into contact with?

I'd suggest having a look at what you can get done on Fiverr (https://www.fiverr.com/)

I think you'll be surprised at what you can get for $5! (Although that's generally the base price for something short and simple, it may get you in touch with the right person, and still not cost too much)

I copied my wallet.dat to a different location and deleted the entire Aidbit folder in ..\AppData\Roaming

I then launched the wallet and it's redownloaded the blockchain again.  I just hit a strange hiccup when there were about 125 block to go, where it got stuck for a few minutes.

wallet.dat is copied back again now and everything is looking fine, although it seems that mining on the P2Pool for over 24 hours yielded no coins at all.  Going to give the official Felix pool a try now.

I managed to get the new 1.0.1.0 wallet by clicking the link in the OP.

However, despite having connections to the network and a spinning "sync wheel", My blockchain seem to be stuck 7 hours in the past.

Could this be an issue caused by connecting to nodes running the old wallet, and if so could you provide nodes that are using the new wallet/fork so I can update my conf file?

★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ DigiShield ✔ v2.9.1 ✔
by
AlexMc
on 22/07/2014, 18:26:34 UTC
After catching up on the last few pages of this post I wholeheartedly agree with the idea that having an easy to use miner built into a future version of the DigiByte wallet would be a great idea.  This would allow many more people who may be interested in cryptocurrencies to get involved quickly and easily, and with DigiByte!

I remember when I first started looking into mining last year that it all seemed very complicated, and this is coming from someone who works in IT.  I ordered a USB hub, and some ASICminers.  When they arrived, my first taste of mining was with Bitminter's downloadable Java client/miner.  I remember how happy I was when I had shares being accepted after a quick download and almost no configuration being required.

I have since configured ATI and NVidia graphics cards using BFGminer, cgminer, and cudaMiner amongst others.  However, to get the most out of the cards has required downloads of multiple drivers and applications from different authors, and countless hours reading forums and websites and messing around with stratum software, launch configs, settings for intensities, thread concurrency, and so on.  Most of the time when I talk to people about crypto currency, and mining in particular, they lose interest in trying it themselves after a few minutes of hearing what it entails.

With the multi-algo update coming to DigiByte soon, I think this opens up a great opportunity to get more people involved, mining, and hosting the blockchain for DigiByte.  Perhaps the "DigiMiner Wallet" could include an additional page during the setup wizard which asked if the user would like to use the power of their CPU or GPU to mine DigiByte while they weren't using them for anything else.  This could either be done with the mining only being triggered when they were idle, or perhaps with an On/Off toggle on the wallets Overview tab.  If selecting the option to mine you could also include a disclaimer explaining that mining would increase the operating temperature and power consumption of the computer in exchange for it's contribution to the security of the DigiByte network, and mining some DigiByteCoins.  An advanced mining tab could then have options to allow you to select the algo, number of CPU threads to use, mining pool logon info, etc.

While I realize that adding all of this would be a huge amount of work,  I think it would also greatly increase the Digibyte community, help decentralize and secure the network, and most importantly it would further differentiate DigiByte from the ever increasing mass of alternate cryptocurrencies out there.

Here's hoping to a successful launch of the new multi-algo update and the hard fork!

Same, cant sync wallet. Been trying for 3 hours

I'm on a mac. Is this a shared problem? I have quite a few coins in limbo from MP which I would like access to.

Cheers

I found that it was because I was working from a coffee shop. Any idea how I can fix this for the future? as I do alot of work in coffee shops

I don't use a Mac and don't know a lot about how the firewall in Mac OS works, but I know my girlfriend had a similar connectivity issue on her Mac and it turned out to be a setting she had to change in Little Snitch.

Problems getting CPU mining going to test DigiCPU (Qubit)

As luck would have it a second CPU arrived today for an upgrade I'm doing on one of our HP ProLiant DL360p servers.  Obviously after installing it I need a way to stress test it...

Firstly, I've noticed that both the GPU, and CPU miner links point to the same place (SGMiner).  I can't get this running on the server as it's Matrox G200 graphics card and doesn't have OpenCL.dll

I then went to the QubitCoin forum post and found their CPU miner link points to Minerd.  I've downloaded that and am using the following command line to launch it:

minerd.exe -a qubit -o stratum+tcp://69.164.206.169:4032 -u t74fXcaZRPsDs6YgRbfWddDSc1Bm6TitCA -p 123

This seems to initialize all the CPU cores, however it gives an error saying there's no reponse from the stratum server.

Has anyone managed to get the CPU mining working properly on a server OS without an AMD or nVidia graphics card?

No, no blocks/shares that I can see.

No Yay!!! or Booooo next to any of the lines.  Any setting you would like me to change?

I've used the username: groestl and the password: iWanttominesomedgbGroestl (both sensitive of case) to connect to  http://69.164.206.169:20001

I haven't tried changing any of those setting to see if I get a connect error. If I change the port number, username, or password I get a related error message.  So it looks like those settings are correct.

Oh, and on a forum related note: when I post a reply to this thread I get an error that the Subject exceeds 80 characters and I have to delete some of it.

UPDATE:

I just setup CudaMiner to test the DigiLitecoin (scrypt) algo and started getting shares almost immediately.  I'll leave it running for the next 30 min or so to check it's stable and then update this with some more info.

UPDATE 2:

After an hour of testing with CudaMiner (28 Feb 2014 Release) using a K6x28 launch config I've got 277/280 shares and an average hashrate of 176kh/s.

Provided it is possible to get shares using the Myriad-Groestl algo, it seems to be considerably more effective and less taxing on my system.  Below is the comparision, with Myriad-Groestl beating out Scrypt on every measure (except for shares, the most important one  Tongue)

Algorithm:            Myriad-Groestl vs Scrypt
Software:             ccMiner v1.2 vs CudaMiner r28Feb
Hashrate:             8250kh/s vs 176kh/s
GPU Core Freq:     966MHz Boost vs 888-940MHz Boost
GPU Core Temp:   80degC vs 82degC
GPU Fan Speed:    1830RPM vs 2040RPM
GPU Mem Usage:  175MB vs 846MB

I'm going to go back to mining with Digi3to1 (Myriad-Groestl) for now, and see if I get any shares at all.

UPDATE 3:

It appears that I do find shares, they are just few, and very far between.  Earlier, when I had been mining for around 4 hours, I saw an "Accepted 2/2 Yay!!!" message.  However, my command prompt history only goes back around 30 min, and there was no sign of the first accepted share.

I got home 2 hours ago and have been checking in every 20 min or so, and there's no sign of any additional shares being accepted over that time.
